Additional Information:
Dr. Califano is the Clyde and Helen Wu Professor of Chemical and Systems Biology at Columbia University, where he also serves as the Founding Chair of the Department of Systems Biology, the Director of the JP Sulzberger Columbia Genome Center, and the Associate Director of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. His lab focuses on the systematic, de novo assembly and interrogation of gene regulatory models for the elucidation of mechanisms that are dysregulated in disease, with specific applications to cancer, stem cells, and neurodegenerative disease and with specific focus on systems pharmacology. These include elucidating the aberrant activity of master regulator proteins in disease checkpoint modules, which are responsible for the stability of disease states, as well as identifying small molecule compounds and combination that can effectively abrogate their activity. The lab, integrates the full spectrum of computational and experimental approaches and techniques, with specific focus on high-throughput data generation. Discoveries from these approaches have led to a number of clinical studies that are ongoing, thus also creating a relevant opportunity and pipeline for translational research.
