Job Description:
We currently have an opening for an Associate Scientist in Bioinformatics, available immediately in Gaithersburg, Maryland (USA). The successful candidate will join a team of researchers actively conducting genomics-based research in infectious disease diagnostics, bio-surveillance, microbiology, virology, and microbial forensics for a variety of government and industrial clients.

Principal Accountabilities and Success Factors:

Successful candidates will have a passion for research & development. Candidates will be expected to develop technically sound solutions for real-world problems and provide ongoing support to operational programs at MRIGlobal in support of ongoing government programs. Examples of activities may include:

  • Development, testing and evaluation of bioinformatics analysis systems
  • Analysis of next generation sequencing data from metagenomics, amplicon sequencing, and whole genome sequencing studies;
  • Validation and routine execution of bioinformatics pipelines for operational USG programs;
  • Installing, testing, evaluating, and troubleshooting open-source software tools;
  • Scripting in bash, perl, python, R, mysql, etc.
  • Occasional travel both in the US and/or internationally expected.
Minimum Qualifications :
  • BS in Biology, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, or related fields with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience in bioinformatics; OR a recent Masters Science degree with no prior professional experience.
  • Core competency in one or more of the following: bash, perl, python, R, mysql.
  • Applicants MUST be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a USG Department of Defense Security clearance.
