Job Description:
The Analytical Technology (AT) group is responsible for the evaluation and implementation of new analytical technologies, validation/transfer of analytical methods, and troubleshooting method-related issues for the Quality Control (QC) labs. The Scientist I, Genomics/Bioinformatics, will lead the development and implementation of bioinformatics and data analysis for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) applications for use in a cGMP laboratory environment. The Scientist I will work closely with the NGS development scientists, software developers, and IT to develop and implement NGS data analysis workflows for adventitious virus detection as well as other applications intended for routine QC testing. The Scientist I will work closely with the NGS development scientists, software developers, and IT to develop and implement NGS data analysis workflows for adventitious virus detection as well as other applications intended for routine QC testing. Summary of Key Responsibilities:
- Preform genomic characterization of pathogens (e.g. viruses) though analyses on NextGen Sequencing data including but not limited to data derived in DNA-seq, RNA-seq, and other experimental models
- Coordinate with virologist and other bioinformaticians in the design of workflows summarizing/reporting findings from experimental data; provide interpretive analysis of data to generate biological meaning
- Assist in designing reports and graphics summarizing experimental data
- Work closely with software developers and IT professionals to create custom toolkits and analytic methods to meet the needs of the virologists
- Present projects to broad audiences, communicate updates, milestones, and roadblocks to senior management
- Expertise in bioinformatics with a working knowledge of genomics, molecular virology
- Experience in phylogenetic analysis or clinical virology
- Ph.D. Degree in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Virology, Molecular Biology or related discipline
- Project management, tracking and measurement
- Experience working in a cGMP or regulated laboratory is a plus
- Work independently with minimal supervision to meet aggressive or accelerated timelines
- Strong oral and written communication skills are a must
- Background in NGS data analysis and statistics is required
- Knowledge of ICH guidelines on analytical method validation is desired
- Experience training and mentoring others
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Strong collaboration and organizational skills and an ability to work well in a team setting is required
