Job Description:
Our Boston based client is seeking a bioinformatic analyst to join their team. Their mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Currently, they’re constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Their bioengineers make use of in-house technologies to engineer new organisms for making natural products, pharmaceuticals, biofuels, and more. They are making the code base, compiler and debugger for life. The ideal candidate will be a fast learner and a critical thinker, with a passion for making biology the next engineering discipline. Experience with NGS and Python are at the heart of this role with at least 2 years of experience in the field. Will consider experienced BS/MS or recent PhD’s with Post-doc experience. Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Developing genetic design tools for forward design of enzymes, metabolic pathways and genomes

• Developing tools for comparative and phylogenetic analysis of genome and metagenome sequence data

• Developing sequence analysis tools for verification, analysis and comparison of engineered strains

• Developing tools for manipulation and analysis of NGS datasets

• Writing custom scripts for any of the above as needed

• Integration of tools into custom software infrastructure

• Run existing analysis software and scripts as needed, while keeping excellent records

Primary Job Requirements:

• BS/MS (2-6 years) or PhD (entry level) in life sciences, bioinformatics, computational biology, physical sciences or equivalent experience

• Loves to write elegant code (please provide a link to any publicly available code when applying)

• Experience with the data analysis stack of Python

• Experience with independent coding projects and considers themselves a ‘whiz’ in this space

• Experience with manipulation and visualization of genome, metagenome and/or NGS datasets

• Ability to clearly communicate with multidisciplinary scientific staff in a fast-paced environment
