Job Description:
Join the Novembre research group, which actively develops and applies statistical techniques for population genetic data. Develop a mechanistic understanding of patterns of diversity among human genomes, with a special emphasis on evolutionary processes and variation underlying disease. Write and test new software for genetic analysis and data management, as well as modify the existing software to achieve higher efficiency and portability. Have access to a large high-speed computer cluster, and a number of smaller Linus or OS X workstations. Considerable scope for creative work on important scientific problems in collaboration with other members of the research team.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, engineering, or the physical sciences required.

Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Unit Experience A minimum of one year of experience with writing and testing scientific software in UNIX/LINUX environment required.
  • Excellent programming skills using C/C++, Python and/or shell scripting and Unix/Linux system administration experience required.
  • Experience with other programming languages, including R and Java, as well as with database systems preferred.
  • Experience with numerical/statistical methods, algorithms and software packages preferred.
Competencies:
  • Exposure to fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of software development required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Problem solving skills required.
  • Ability to use standard software development applications and tools required.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload to meet critical project milestones and deadlines required.
