Job Description:
Manage all aspects of data analysis and storage and bioinformatics support at Houston Methodist Hospital Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine. Specifically perform bioinformatics and statistical analysis for Next Generation sequencing experiments as well as develop pipelines and application tools for laboratory scientists.

Duties and Responsibilities are cross-referenced to the hospitals Pillars of Excellence and will be transferred to the Performance Evaluation.

PEOPLE 20%

FINANCE 20%

1. Accountable for the proper use of equipment and supplies.

2. Utilizes all available work time by assisting others and performing additional tasks.

QUALITY/SAFETY 20%

1. Maintains compliance with guidelines set by regulatory bodies.

2. Prepare bioinformatics analysis protocols and report templates.

SERVICE 20%

1. Perform bioinformatics analysis for Next Generation Sequencing assays.

2. Train staff to perform bioinformatics analysis.

3. Maintain hardware, software, and databases used in the lab.

GROWTH/INNOVATION 20%

1. Develop and validate pipeline, application tools, and application upgrades.

2. Provide statistical support to health science research projects.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master of Science degree with a major in biostatistics or bioinformatics related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of three years of work experience in bioinformatics analysis.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of the functional discipline of the work area.
  • Knowledge of work area processes and procedures.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships as required in the operating environment.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in planning and organizing the work area.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Must meet the requirements on the competency checklist for assigned work area.
