As a Senior Bioinformatician, you will use strong scientific knowledge and programming skills to design and implement bioinformatics services for research projects at the Biological Sciences Division. You will be focused on hands-on technical activities to explore and visualize data and evaluate a wide range of models relevant to the epidemiology and evolution of influenza and the dynamics of host immunity. Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing methodologies and tools as needed, keeping abreast of industry trends and new technologies, and recommending potential solutions based on the latest technical developments.
- You will use the community best practices, to prototype, develop, execute, test and roll out production-level analysis pipelines.
- Analyze data of high complexity by applying sound statistical and commonly accepted bioinformatics methods on collaborative projects.
- Lead projects as the primary bioinformatics resource to ensure they are managed in a timely and efficient manner, appropriately documented, and provide follow up support services after initial project completion.
- Revise or modify procedures to solve complex problems and work at a high technical level in all phases of data management and bioinformatics support activities.
- Work closely with graduate students, postdocs, and other lab members, and frequently interact with the BSD Faculty.
- You will also engage with collaborators at other institutions and the bioinformatics community at large.
- Participate in the writing and delivery of presentations; grant proposal sections, and manuscript sections.

Additional Requirements
Education, Experience and Certifications: Education: Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics, the Biological Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field required. Experience:- Three (3) or more years of experience in the field of bioinformatics
- Demonstrated experience evaluating a wide range of models, from mechanistic to statistical
- Experience and a working understanding of algorithms, data structures, and scientific programming
- Experience working on High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure
- Experience in employing high performance computing to solve parallelizable compute problems
- Experience with project management
- Experience with version control, such as git
- Experience mentoring early career bioinformaticians
