Job Description:
Ciber is currently seeking a Bioinformatician in the Indianapolis area. The incumbent is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of a bioinformatics pipeline for the analysis of whole genome sequencing data. Incumbent is responsible for writing a standard operating procedure aimed toward microbiologists, as well as training microbiologists in the use of bioinformatics tools. Essential Duties/Responsibilities: This position is part of the Indiana State Department of Health Laboratory, and reports to the supervisor of the Assay Development Group. Incumbent will have in-depth knowledge and ability in the areas of bioinformatics and pipeline development. Representative duties include: •Consult with researchers to analyze problems, recommend technology-based solutions, or determine computational strategies. • Create novel computational approaches and analytical tools as required by research goals. • Customize existing software applications and databases to meet specific scientific project needs. • Instruct others in the selection and use of bioinformatics tools. • Experience with Illumina MiSeq and CLC Bio Genomics workbench preferred. • Develop data models and databases. • Provide statistical and computational tools for biologically based activities such as genetic analysis, measurement of gene expression, and gene function determination. •Test new and updated bioinformatics tools and software. • testing personnel responsibilities (493.1495 Standard). The testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting test results. This position requires the successful completion of a background investigation and/or drug screen.
