Applications are invited for the full-time position of Bioinformatician to join a large-scale whole genome sequencing study, and support a range of translational research projects within the Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit (CBCRU). Due to the launch of an exciting new project, the Personalised Breast Cancer Program (PBCP), which aims to offer whole genome sequencing to every patient being treated at the CBU, a unique opportunity has arisen for a bioinformatician to support the development of the informatics pipeline required for this project, and other related breast cancer translational studies. We are seeking a talented and highly motivated bioinformatician with an interest in molecular oncology to provide technical expertise in the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, to be delivered to clinicians and patients in clinically actionable time-frames, for diagnostic, predictive and prognostic use in the clinic. The role holder will be required to create and develop genetic reports, for presentation at Oncogenetic Review Board meetings, in addition to the development and implementation of a comprehensive tumour genomic profiling platform, ensuring data is used in an efficient, standardised, secure and accurate manner, and utilising cutting edge technologies and adhering to information governance standards. As part of an ongoing collaboration with research groups at the CRUK CI (http://www.cruk.cam.ac.uk/) and with leading biotechnology partners, the successful applicant will work to develop and validate analytical pipelines (including QC and QA documentation) for the automated processing, analysis and interpretation of NGS data, to identify relevant molecular features (somatic mutation analysis, amplifications, deletions and gene rearrangements). The role will involve working closely with scientific staff and clinicians in the evaluation of bioinformatics tools to assist in the analysis and interpretation of molecular aberrations. The successful applicant will hold an MSc or PhD in a relevant subject or have equivalent experience, and will hold a post-graduate qualification in Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or obtained equivalent knowledge through relevant experience. Experience in cancer research, including a working understanding of computation approaches for cancer genome analysis using next generation sequencing data, is highly desirable. Previous working knowledge of GATK guidelines, MuTECT or other mutation-calling pipelines would be advantageous. Closes: 12th February 2017

It is involved in world leading clinical and laboratory research into breast cancer, and is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team, including oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, nurses, data managers, and laboratory staff, with strong links to Professor Caldas' group at the CRUK Cambridge Institute (CRUK-CI).
