Job Description:
The Bioinformatician will conduct analyses that involve use of dense genetic, biochemical, lifestyle, and electronic health record data in relation to vascular disease, as well as a wide range of related cardiometabolic outcomes. Genetic analyses will include GWAS and whole-exome sequencing data in ten to hundreds of thousand participants, as part of single cohort studies and large multi-institutional collaborations. The Bioinformatician will be expected to develop and deploy complex electronic phenotyping algorithms across millions of participants in large electronic health record databases to construct analytic data sets and subsequently align this complex phenotype data with multi-dimensional data from DNA based studies using myriad bioinformatic tools. The Bioinformatician will also be expected to use available bioinformatics data (e.g. ENCODE, dbGAP) to gain further insights into the function of genetic variants. The Bioinformatician will also be expected to work closely with other members of the group including epidemiologists, biologists, and clinicians, to help interpret findings and prepare relevant manuscripts. There will be ample opportunity to participate in the preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

Position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications:

Master s degree in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, or a related field and 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Must be detail-oriented and well-organized. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to work independently and also as part of a team. A sound understanding of electronic health record databases, expertise with query (SQL) and scripting (PYTHON) languages, experience working in UNIX / LINUX based operating systems, and familiarity with statistical packages (such as R) is required.
