Job Description:
Phoenix Bioinformatics is looking for a bioinformatics scientist to join our growing non-profit organization. The ideal candidate has experience in both development of new bioinformatics software and maintenance of standard bioinformatics software packages and databases serving academic researchers. S/he has experience with agile/lean software development methods and the ability to communicate effectively with both biologists and software developers. Responsibilities -Work collaboratively with biologists and software developers on staff, comprehend project objectives, and evaluate and provide informatics solutions. -Maintain and enhance the existing bioinformatics tools hosted by TAIR. -Architect and develop new bioinformatics tools for the research community. -Develop new bioinformatics analyses, applications, and workflows to expand our in-house data curation and bioinformatics capabilities. -Work closely with our software developers to build robust infrastructure. -Write grant proposals and publications. Requirements: -PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related discipline. -3+ years of experience developing and maintaining software using Perl (bioPerl), Python (bioPython), bash, C/C++, Java, and/or SQL in Linux/Unix environment. -3+ years of experience providing bioinformatics support to research scientists. -Proficiency in installing, configuring, and maintaining bioinformatics software (eg. BLAST, GBrowse, JBrowse, other GMOD components). -Excellent time management as well as oral and written communication skills. Please include a cover letter with your application.
