Job Description:
Job Purpose: To support the researchers in the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) and carry out independent computer-based research, perform data analysis, and develop novel analytical approaches for viruses and virus-host interaction data sets. Typical these are from genome sequencing projects, metagenomics, transcriptomic and proteomic experiments. Experience in the analysis of any of these data types will be a distinct advantage. The postholder will be involved in a range of virology projects spanning the research activities of the CVR, and our collaborations and will be encouraged to develop their own research interests in computational virology. Candidates with a background in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular evolution, computer science, biostatistics and/or machine learning are encouraged to apply. We strongly encourage early career researchers to apply. Standard Terms & Conditions: Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade, level 6/7, £28,098 - £31,604/£34,520 - £38,833 per annum. This position is full time and has funding until 31 March 2021. New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months. The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits. All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.
