Job Description We are seeking an enthusiastic Bioinformatician to join the PRIDE database project, part of the Proteomics Service Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). The databases is a world-leading international proteomics database, and founding member of ProteomeXchange (PX) Consortium, capturing large-scale mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics data from the scientific community, and currently managing more than 160 TB of data. The team is also responsible of the development and maintenance of popular tools such as PRIDE Inspector, the PX submission tool as well as several other open source MS software libraries. We are a major contributor to international standardisation efforts under the umbrella of the Proteomics Standards Initiative. For further information please visit www.ebi.ac.uk/pride   The post holder will contribute to the development of proteomics data pipelines devoted to quality control, data analysis and internal data submission and validation. This will involve the maintenance and further development of the software libraries and tools developed by the team. In addition, s(he) will provide an excellent support to PRIDE users, handling dataset submissions and user requests. The post-holder will also have the opportunity to participate in and contribute to training activities. The EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and it is a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. EMBL-EBI provides freely available data from life science experiments, performs basic research in computational biology and offers an extensive user training programme, supporting researchers in academic and industry. We are part of EMBL, Europe’s flagship laboratory for the life sciences Qualifications and Experience Applicants should be educated to MSc or PhD level in life sciences or computer science, and have three years proven professional experience. Specifically, the ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary degree or comparable practical experience in computer science and biology/chemistry. Candidates must be able to demonstrate at least 2 years’ work experience in a programming language such as Java, Python, R or Perl and professional experience with relational databases (e.g. MySQL) is also essential. Candidates are expected to be comfortable working in a UNIX/Linux environment. Experience in mass spectrometry proteomics data analysis would be a strong plus. The post holder will work in a highly international, team-oriented environment and collaborate closely with external partners. Excellent communication skills are essential to ensure effective communication with other team members as well as with users. The ability to work independently, under time pressure, and dedication to open communication is necessary.
