Job Description:
The Bioinformatician II (Vascular Cell Biology) supports Joslin bioinformatics with analysis of high-throughput data sets and manuscript and grant preparation.

Responsibilities:

Under supervision, the bioinformatician will:

  • communicate with investigators to understand their questions
  • gather data from the investigators or public repositories
  • read relevant literature and be aware of available tools to ensure use of state-of-the-art software
  • apply state-of-the-art data processing and analysis for the data type
  • when the Core expects multiple datasets of the same data type, contribute reusable functions in R to more quickly analyze such data in the future
  • apply tests to the code to ensure correctness and verify the results are consistent with output, such as plots
  • create text and publishable figures using the R package ggplot2 to communicate the results to the investigator
  • be able to edit figures as requested for publication in papers and grants
  • be able to formally describe methods used in papers and grants
  • complete projects in a timely manner
  • coordinate projects with his/her manager
Qualifications:
  • PhD
  • Experience with bioinformatics analysis of microarray, mass spectrometry, and next generation sequencing data using R/Bioconductor
  • Evidence of scholarly achievement as demonstrated by publications in leading journal preferred
  • Two years of bioinformatics research experience preferred
  • One year of experience working on diabetes related datasets preferred
  • Research experience in an academic medical setting
