Job Description:
Bioinformatician Applications are invited for a Bioinformatician to join the Laboratory of Dr Xiaoqi Feng in the John Innes Centre (JIC). Working at the cutting edge of reproductive biology and epigenetics, the Feng Laboratory has developed novel bioinformatics pipelines, cell isolation technologies, and powerful reverse genetics and imaging tools to dissect the mechanisms by which epigenetic factors shape cellular function and behaviour. Using the plant sex cells as a model, the Feng team are generating a wealth of genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic (eg. DNA methylation, histone modifications) data that are cell specific for a number of species. The successful candidate will have access to this exciting pool of data, enabling him/her to draw correlations and extract biological meaning. Through this, the candidate will work closely with other scientists in the multidisciplinary team to gain novel insights into the mechanism of how epigenetics regulates cellular decision and development. The successful candidate will have a PhD degree or equivalent experience demonstrating a keen interest, and excellent skills in bioinformatics such as programming, data mining, and capacity in developing new mathematical algorithms. The candidate will benefit from further bioinformatics training in the Feng Laboratory and various training programmes at JIC, and opportunities to interact with scientists and bioinformaticians in JIC, and the closely associated Genome Analysis Centre, Sainsbury Laboratory, and Institute of Food Research. Salary on appointment will be within the range £30,500 to £37,500 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This post is for a contract of 24 months.
