The candidate will work with a team of scientists working on novel bioinformatics solutions for next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, with special emphasis on metagenomics. This applicant would become part of the Division’s Genome Programs, which include a core sequencing facility specializing in Illumina and PacBio technologies, and a bioinformatics group. The Genome Programs group is focused on adapting state-of-the-art methods and devising novel strategies and algorithms to better interpret genomic, metagenomic, and transcriptomic data. Our group is comprised of experimental and computational bioscientists working on projects that span a range of topics, including microbial ecology, genome evolution, host-microbe interactions (e.g. host-pathogen, fungal-bacterial symbioses, etc.), cancer biology, biosurveillance, pathogen diagnostics, algal genomics and bioenergy, and others. The position will initially explore novel methods in metagenomic and/or transcriptomic data analysis applied to one or more of these projects. Additional projects or topics of interest will also be explored. For more information about work from the Chain lab, please visit our github site: https://github.com/LANL-Bioinformatics.
