REPORTS TO: Daniel Navarro-Gomez, MBC Team Leader and Luk Vandenberghe, PI The Grousbeck Gene Therapy Center at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Ocular Genomics Institute and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary is seeking candidates to join their efforts to study, engineer, and translate gene therapies for diseases with unmet medical needs. The current position seeks a Bioinformaticist to aid in the management, transformation, and interpretation of data collected as part of our novel viral vector design platform. The candidate will work closely with the (MEEI Bioinfomatics Center - MBC) and provide support to the senior staff and other lab members. This is a position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, good interpersonal skills, ability to perform as a team member, and willingness to train others. Responsibilities include:
- Work with outside partners and internal resources to manage, catalog, and store NGS reads as well as transformed formats.
- Work with internal resources to routinize transformation of raw data into formats suitable for more extensive analysis.
- Assist, guide, and participate in the interpretation of complex data sets. Present results to internal members and external partners.
- Create tools for visualizing and interpreting results.
- Assist, guide, and participate in ongoing or novel projects teaming up with the MBC.
- Participate in management of external collaborations and internal resources to maintain communication and project timelines.
- A background in protein structure and function is preferred.
- Attending necessary safety courses, training sessions, and educational seminars.
- Maintaining careful records of all procedures, tests and results
- At least 1 years of experience within research laboratory setting
- Sc. in computer science, (bio)statistics, bioinformatics, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline required. M.Sc. or Ph.D. in these fields preferred.
- Experience with Unix/Linux systems.
- Strong programming skills with programming languages like: Python, Perl, R and Matlab.
- Experience working on High Performance Computing environments preferred.
- Required education: Bachelor’s degree
