Job Description:
As a Bioinformaticist within the translational genomics department of EA Genomics, you will be responsible to provide advanced analytical and interpretive expertise of NGS data. You will be an integral member of a team that strives to continually develop novel algorithmic and pipeline solutions serving the scientific and bioinformatic analysis needs of our clients. You will present scientific findings internally and externally, author analytical reports and may present results at meetings and conferences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop novel approaches to address complex problems in NGS data analysis including RNA-SEQ and DNA-SEQ applications. (e.g. circulating tumor DNA variant calling, immune-oncology, etc.)
  • Perform detailed and custom next generation sequencing analysis tasks such as data processing and visualization.
  • Identify best-in-class methods, software solutions and strategies for bioinformatic applications. This includes both benchmarking third party software and internal tool evaluations.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise internally and independently drive solutions across teams and departments.
  • Communicate with clients to estimate resources and timelines for custom analysis projects and then execute on the developed plan.
  • Develop programming documentation including design, requirements and instructions, as appropriate.
  • Perform and plan the development, implementation and validation of onboarding new product technologies and applications.
  • Lead department and/or cross-functional project teams to address company initiatives.
  • Provide training and guidance to new staff.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong foundational knowledge of Linux and bash, and efficient in working on a HPC through a terminal.
  • Strong proficiency with at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, etc.), the use of software version control and unit testing.
  • Experience with high-performance programming is a plus.
  • Readily able to discuss common packages and software within a bioinformatics workflow.
  • In-depth experience in the statistical language R and common packages.
  • Practical experience with creating experimental designs, statistical analysis plans and real-world data analysis.
  • Experience with data normalization, generalized linear models, feature and model selection, clustering techniques, dimension reduction techniques and machine learning approaches.
  • Basic knowledge of biomarker discovery and other statistical approaches of NGS data including functional enrichment and pathway analysis.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and projects.
  • Excellent level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and clients.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, molecular biology, genetics or related field and 5 years relevant experience or Master’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, molecular biology, genetics or related field and 3 years relevant experience; or PhD or educational equivalent in computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, genetics/molecular biology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Extensive use of keyboard requiring repetitive motion of fingers.
  • Regular sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional travel (<5-10% of the time).
