Job Description:
Tulane Center for Aging Genomics, Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Core is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Analyst with expertise in bioinformatics and biostatistics. Experiences in high-throughput data analysis and familiarity with various genomic databases and software tools, especially for microarray and next-generation sequencing data analyses, are preferred (see below for other preferred experiences). Tasks include data management, analysis, interpretation, and documentation of the results to help investigators publish their research results. The analyst will provide appropriate bioinformatics support for investigators who are seeking answers to biologically important questions. The analyst will also build, organize, and maintain up-to-date databases on bioinformatics. Thus, the analyst will have an excellent opportunity to interact with enthusiastic investigators in various biomedical fields and advance his/her career in one of the nation's top research universities. The Core is equipped with state-of-the-art high-throughput sequencing instruments. It has extensive collaborations with scientists and physicians at Tulane University in cutting-edge studies on biomedical science.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work well with others
  • Fluency with at least one general-purpose programming language (such as C/C++ or Python), and one language for scientific computing (such as R or MATLAB)
  • Solid analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task, and prioritize work assignments
  • Must be able to work well independently and demonstrate proficient problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Master Degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer sciences or a related field and at least one (1)-year bioinformatics experience to include experience in high-throughput sequencing data analysis or method development, with at least one publication

OR

Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer sciences or a related field and at least three (3)years bioinformatics experience to include experience in high-throughput sequencing data analysis or method development, with at least one publication
