Job Description:
The Bioengineering Systems and Technology group works on a wide range of topics including numerous biological and medical applications. The group is in search of a creative individual to support our algorithm development, big data analysis, and bioinformatics portfolios. The candidate will work in several roles: as part of a small team, leading a task and a small team as part of a larger effort, and working independently. The candidate will work closely with experts in synthetic biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, signal processing, acoustics, and biophotonics.

Requirements:

A MS in biostatistics, computer science, bioinformatics, or related field is required or equivalent experience in bioinformatics analysis. In lieu of an MS, will consider a BS with 3+ years related experience. Familiarity with statistical analysis as well as genetics and multi-omic analysis is highly desired. Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and graphical) are highly desired. Experience with algorithm design, testing, and optimization is desired.

The Bioengineering Systems and Technologies Group seeks improve human health and performance, prevent injury and infection, and enhance physical rehabilitation with advanced bioengineering technology. Our work covers four broad technical areas: biomedical research, engineered and synthetic biology, bioinformatics, and forensic biology. We develop advanced biomedical sensors, algorithms, and systems that help people monitor their health and avoid injury or illness. We apply synthetic biology, systems analysis, hardware prototyping, and algorithm development to create novel sensor systems to address critical surveillance and diagnostic needs. Our staff are also exploring how microfluidic devices can facilitate the engineering of genomes and the study of microbiome/human interactions. Our bioinformatics research produces software tools for analyzing biological data. These analyses help us understand diseases at the cellular level and, in turn, help us develop diagnostic tools. Within the area of forensic biology, we are developing technologies to improve and expand how DNA can be used to identify individuals. Our group’s work has broad applications for the health and benefit of the nation’s military, law enforcement, and civilians.
