Job Description:
Maintains software, hardware and the network in a bioinformatics setting or molecular modeling laboratory. Supervises regular updates and recommends state-of-the-art enhancements. Analyzes high throughput screening data and performs structure activity analyses to generate predictive correlations. Applies a limited range of molecular modeling tools to refinement of high throughput screening hits. Presents the models in a form that allows users to make decisions concerning the direction of an experimental program. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics or related field. Two years of experience in bioinformatics and/or computational chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications
An advanced degree in computational biology, a biological science, bioinformatics, or a related computer science discipline is required
• Ability to devise, implement, and apply computational methods to solve difficult biological problems
• Demonstrable programming experience in Python, R, C/C++ and/or MATLAB (otherlanguages are also acceptable, with a rationale)
• Experience working with RNA-Seq is a significant strength
• Ability to work with other high-throughput experimental data (e.g., genomic, proteomic, metabolomics)
• Ability to create reproducible analysis pipelines
• Excellent communication and scientific writing skills
• Motivation to turn data into manuscripts
• Experience in a project-oriented, deadline-driven team environment
• Attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
• Experience developing classifiers or biomarkers
• Strong leadership skills
• Self-motivation
• Creativity
• Lab bench work experience also a plus

This staff bioinformaticist / computational biologist will be responsible for conducting analyses on high-throughput genomic data produced as part of a large research consortium dedicated to better understanding the interactions between malaria parasites and non-human primate hosts. This new hire will use molecular profiling to investigate the biological networks activated by the parasite and simultaneously assess changes in the transcriptome of the parasite. Applicants should possess strong scientific and computational skills, an affinity for hypothesis development and testing in a collaborative research environment, and a drive to learn new skills.
