Job Description:
UST Corporation is looking for an outstanding bioinformatics analyst to join the team. This position is a unique opportunity to work on a new form of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data that enables many previously unachievable applications. This person will lead the development of algorithms to solve difficult genomics problems, such as, de novo assembly, structure variation detection, and copy number variation. The ideal candidate will have experience implementing novel methods using techniques such as sequence alignment, text indexing and searching, genome assembly, graph algorithms, combinatorial optimization and probability theory. Experience combining novel and existing tools into effective pipelines is a plus. The candidate must also have strong programming skills, and a keen interest in biology and working with real-world data. Strong interpersonal skills, a desire to understand genomics researchers needs and the ability to communicate results clearly are a must. This position will interact closely with colleagues in molecular biology and software. Key Responsibilities Analyze internally generated sequencing data
Develop custom analyses to assess and guide development of the core technology
Develop algorithms for novel NGS data across a number of novel applications
Work with internal or external biologists to understand applications and requirements
Work with software team to commercialize algorithms products
PhD in computer science, bioinformatics or related field with 0-3 years of postdoctoral experience
MSc in computer science, bioinformatics or related field with at least 5 years of post-graduate experience
Strong background in algorithms for sequence analysis, genome assembly and statistics
Hands on experience with NGS data tools (e.g. bwa, samtools, GATK)
Strong programming ability in Python, Perl, Shell scripting (experience with Java, C/C++ a significant plus)
Experience building and releasing commercial software a significant plus
