PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Cancer Genomics Research (CGR) laboratory in Gaithersburg, MD, is a fast-paced, high-throughput genotyping and sequencing facility dedicated to the support of molecular, genetic and epidemiologic studies for investigators at the National Cancer Institute's Division of Cancer Epidemiology & Genetics.
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician to join the Operations division at the CGR within the Bioinformatics group. The incumbent will be responsible for the following key deliverables: Execute analysis of whole-genome, exome, transcriptome, methylome, microbiome, and targeted sequencing data generated by multiple technologies, including Illumina, IonTorrent, Pacific Biosciences, and others; Execute analysis of whole-genome, methylation and targeted genotyping data generated by multiple applications, including Illumina Infinium and HM450, qPCR and others; Dissemination of data to DCEG investigators and other collaborators, including adequate technical and scientific annotation required for interpretation. Posting of data sets to public data repositories (dbGaP) as required based on NIH genomic data sharing policies.

Qualifications:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in biomedical science/bioinformatics/math/computer related field from an accredited college or university or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree.
- Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- In addition to the educational requirements, a minimum of four (4) years of related analytical experience is required.
- Hands-on experience in processing and analyzing sequencing, genotyping, expression and other data utilizing R/Bioconductor (including quality and biological assessment) is essential.
- Familiarity with diverse primary sequencing tools (e.g. BWA, bedtools, GATK, Bowtie, IGV, muTect, VarScan).
- Experience with GWAS analysis.
- Programming experience in Python, Unix shell (Bash), Java scripting or similar.
- This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in biomedical science or bioinformatics.
- Hands-on experience with commercial and open-source bioinformatics and genomics analysis software (IVA, GoldenHelix, Galaxy) is desired.
- Familiarity with publically available data sources (e.g. TCGA, ENCODE, 1000 Genomes, COSMIC, ESP) and diverse genomic annotations. Experience managing large datasets and computational tasks, including submission of data to public repositories, experience in the field of molecular and population genetics.
