We are seeking a capable and dynamic individual to serve as head of a team of 3-5 bioinformatics analysts within the Dana-Farber Bioinformatics and Data Science group, a newly formed group serving some of the most prominent research and clinical programs at the Institute, from basic research to translational research, to clinical diagnostics and operations. The group encompasses expertise in data science, machine learning, bioinformatics and NLP, and seeks to develop a highly interdisciplinary environment supporting our research, clinical and operational staff advance the overall mission of DFCI which is to provide expert, compassionate care to children and adults with cancer while advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, cure, and prevention of cancer and related diseases. As we widen our support of several crucial centers and programs at DFCI and we hire analysts dedicated to several programs in the Institute, we seek a head of bioinformatics for a team of bioinformatics analysts with the ability to lead multiple projects independently and providing bioinformatics support for some of our key initiatives and centers relying on genomic data. The head of bioinformatics will lead projects supporting faculty and staff in the collection, management, analysis and interpretation of biomedical data, with a focus on the analysis of integratesd clinical and–OMICS data. Responsibilities:
- Ability to lead a team of 3-5 senior analysts effectively, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to plan and execute complex projects
- Strong team player, able to leverage the many excellent groups and resources at DFCI and Harvard more broadly and build collaborative strategies
- Communicates and solves problems effectively, has a track record in serving a variety of diverse customers and projects and of leading small teams.
- Is able to work independently, prioritize, and manage people, within an environment with rapidly changing priorities.
- Interprets complex biomedical information. Performs tasks to consolidate and interpret output from software. Ability to summarize and present results to senior leadership.
- Monitors new developments in the field and has vision for staying at the cutting edge .
- Experienced in bioinformatics tools for a variety of sequencing protocols, e.g. DNAseq, RNAseq, Chip-Seq and integration with clinical information
- Recognizes and reports problems with the data management process and identifies solutions.
- Deep bioinformatics skills, at the interface between bioinformatics programming and understanding of biological and clinical problems
- Experience in project requirement gathering, design, planning and execution, and defining appropriate experimental design
- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
- Experience in basic statistics and machine learning applied to biomedical data and statistical programming using R, Python required, experience with interfaces such as Jupyter/Shiny beneficial
- Familiarity with programming using Python, statistical programming using R required, web-development, and database query through SQL beneficial
- Experience with High Performance Computing environments, e.g. submission of jobs via common cluster queuing systems
- Additional experience that would be beneficial: Shiny or Spyre web app development experience, Experience with bioinformatics workflow development and related technologies such as CWL/WDL workflow languages, Docker, Cromwell or other execution engines, Experience with LIMS systems for genomics and/or other biomedical data, Experience with machine learning, deep learning, classification
