Job Description:
Support the design and development of multiplex PCR and microarray based diagnostics assays.
Conduct literature search and competitor analysis to annotate infectious disease agents.
Aggregate and organize genomic data from multiple sources in a relational database using computational tools.
Select suitable gene markers based on literature research and comparative genomic analysis.
Generate and curate multiple sequence alignments.
Design and annotate oligonucleotides such as primers and probes for multiplex PCR and microarray.
Work closely with experimental researchers to analyze the root cause for success and failure
Manage the inventory of designed oligonucleotides and track testing status
Write test plans and reports associated with assay design.
  Required Qualifications
This position requires the knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of a MS degree in Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or a related scientific field. BS degree with three or more years of related experience will be considered.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Experience with PCR primer and/or microarray probe design.
Hands-on experience with sequence analysis tools such as or similar to BLAST/BLAT/FASTA, CLUSTALW/MAFFT/T-Coffee/MUSCLE, MFOLD/UNAFold, BioEdit/Geneious/CLC, etc.
Excellent understanding of public genomic databases and their applications (e.g., GenBank).
Experience manipulating, analyzing, and annotating very large genomic data sets, both in exploratory and pipelined fashions.
Good understanding on genomics, genotyping, genetic mapping, sequencing, comparative genome analysis.
Comfortable with UNIX/LINUX shell commands.
Ability to interact with internal customers in a changing environment on fast-paced projects.
Can-do attitude with a willingness to go the extra mile to assure project success.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience troubleshooting and optimizing PCR assays.
Familiar with standard biochemical and molecular biology laboratory techniques.
Programming skills with Perl, Python or R.
Experience with relational databases (MySQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL) and web application development.
