Job Description:
We are looking for a Bioinformatics Analyst in our Translational Genetics Group. The position will take on responsibilities for providing broad bioinformatics support for genetics projects within the Translational Genetics group and manipulating and representing large-scale phenotypic and genotypic data sets to support the analysis and presentation of results. Primary responsibilities will be to provide programming expertise to support the spectrum of Translational Genetics research, including the development and application of bioinformatics algorithms to aid in the discovery activities of the Translational Genetics team and its development activities. The goals of this team are to apply human genetics to novel target discovery, identify indications for drug programs, and stratify patients/diseases through genetic analyses and functional biology studies. The ideal candidate will have strong programming proficiencies with familiarity of next-generation sequence and genotyping data, existing genomic databases, and methods and algorithms for genomic analyses. Experience in genome sequence and variant analysis, experimental design, and statistical methods for genetic analyses and interpretation is highly recommended.

Responsibilities:

• Work directly with the lead of the Mendelian Genetics group at the Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC) to provide bioinformatics support for family-based analyses, implement existing analytical tools, and develop novel algorithms for genetic analyses at the RGC.

• Interface with Translational Genetics team members to provide day-to-day bioinformatics support to implement analytical strategies for genetic studies.

• Interface with Translational Genetics team members to provide intuitive and interpretable graphical representations of primary data and results from genetic analyses.

• Survey the literature for methodologies of data analysis, manipulation, and representation. Integrate such methodologies into study opportunities and internal considerations to facilitate the studies performed at the RGC.

• Incorporate multiple data sources from publicly available and other databases to inform on potential genes of interest derived from the Translational Genetics group studies.

• Interface with members of other RGC teams including analytical genetics, clinical informatics, functional modeling, and genome informatics teams at the RGC to facilitate genetics projects.

• Assist in the preparation of scientific presentations, manuscripts, and reports, including the preparation of tables, figures, and graphs depicting research results.

• Communicate and report study findings and analyses with colleagues within the RGC, Regeneron scientists and colleagues, and external collaborators.

Requirements:

This position requires a Master’s degree in bioinformatics with at least 2 years of field related experience . A bachelor’s degree with 3 -5 years of directly related experience in bioinformatics and a solid grounding in computer programming is acceptable in lieu of a Master’s degree. A previous research focus in human genetics is desirable. Additional requirements include:

• Proficiency in the Unix/Linux command line interface and environment.

• Proficiency in at least one scripting programming language (preferably Perl and/or Python).

• Proficiency in at least one statistical programming environment (preferably R).

• Strong aptitude in mathematics and statistics.

• Experience in development of computational algorithms, preferably applied to the biological sciences; documented experience in algorithm development is desirable.

• Familiarity with NGS sequencing technologies and genomic data analysis tools and algorithms. Familiarity with other omics platforms and technologies (i.e. SNP-chip genotyping, Sanger and targeted sequencing, RNAseq, microarrays, etc).

• Familiarity with genomic and biological information databases (e.g. OMIM, ClinVar, HGMD, ExAC, ESP), functional genomics resources and browsers (e.g. UCSC Genome Browser, Ensembl, GTex), and mouse and other model organism databases (e.g. MGI, ZFin, Flybase).

• Ability to competently aggregate and synthesize results and information; and to provide clearly interpretable representations of complex data sets.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills; documented skills in communicating scientific findings is desirable.

• Experience working independently and in a team environment.

• Enthusiasm and eagerness to learn, work with others, and support analyses in a big team environment; strong work ethic

Additional Info:
The Regeneron Genetics Center is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company organized to collaborate with health systems and research groups to elucidate, on a large scale, genetic factors that cause or influence a range of human diseases. Building upon Regeneron's strengths in mouse genetics and genetics-driven drug discovery and development, the Center will specialize in ultra-high-throughput exome sequencing and computational biology; discovery of genotype-phenotype associations through linkage to well-annotated de-identified patient electronic medical records; and validation of discoveries using Regeneron’s VelociGene® technology. Our interests encompass a breadth of different areas such as Mendelian and family frameworks, large-scale population genetics (both common and rare variants), and gene-gene interactions. Program goals include target discovery, indication discovery, and patient-disease stratification. Objectives include advancing basic science around the world through public sharing of discoveries, providing clinically-valuable insights to physicians and patients of collaborating health-care systems, and identifying novel targets for drug development.

This is an opportunity to join our select team that is already leading the way in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry. Apply today and learn more about Regeneron Genetics Center’s unwavering commitment to combining good science & good business.
