Job Description:
This person will be working in Pre-Therapeutic Target Discovery in Tarrytown, NY. The Pre-therapeutic Target Discovery group does basic research for early discovery of potential targets for biologic drug therapies. The Tier1 process is a standardized set of phenotyping assays to study the effects of targeted mouse gene knockouts affecting secreted and transmembrane proteins. Phenotyping assays include blood chemistry, hematology (CBC), body composition, tumor growth, splenic immune cell profiling, transcription profiling with RNASeq, in vivo gene expression analysis with a LacZ reporter, microscopy and image analysis for histology, morphology and development. The Tier informatics team manages the organization, analysis and presentation of data generated with a variety of technologies, such as automated serum chemistry and hematology instruments, flow cytometry, microcomputed tomography (uCT) and high-resolution episcopic microscopy (HREM).

The student will work on one of the following potential project areas:

1) Developing robust statistical analysis of quantitative data accumulated for over 700 gene knockout experiments. An area of special interest is accounting for historical variation caused by batch effects, instrument and reagent changes, etc.

2) Developing advanced web-based user interfaces for quantitative data analysis and statistics, as well as image analysis for lacZ reporter gene expression.

  • Must be an undergraduate, masters or PhD student
  • Must be pursuing a degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Immunology or related
  • Experience with programming (unix shell, Python,R), web frameworks (R shiny, Python Flask, etc.), relational databases, biostatistics
  • Some background in life sciences would be preferred.
General Intern Program Information:
  • Must be enrolled in, or accepted to, an academic program pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or PharmD
  • Summer Program is full-time (~40 hrs/wk) for at least 10 weeks and is paid
  • Prefer demonstrated leadership in areas such as campus activities, clubs, sports or the community
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • You will work with a specific manager on a project(s)
  • Enjoy weekly 1 hour Intern Program events: learn about other areas of the company from VPs and other employees, soft skills workshops, networking, volunteering, and more!
  • Present to your team on your summer project
