Job Description:
We are seeking a Bioinformatics/ Biologist with a B.S. Degree or higher in Bioinformatics or a scientific field related to molecular biology, toxicology, microbiolog, etc., and with an ACTIVE security clearance to work as a Bioinformatics Subject Matter Expert (SME) in support of highly technical programs out of our Herndon, VA location.

Candidate will be responsible for the following:

-Develop and enhance new capabilities using bioinformatics platforms and technical analysis of data.

-Scripting simple to complex Bioinformatics tasks using Python, PERL, JAVA, PHP or C++ (must have at least 2 of these programming language skills)

-Perform meta genomic analysis using sequence data from customer and common sequencing tools.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications are a Bachelors Degree in the Biological Sciences and 6+ years of related scientific experience. A Master's degree is strongly desired and preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree in biology, chemistry, or forensic science related areas, with additional credit hours from a combination undergraduate/graduate course work in the following areas: biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and statistics or population genetics.

Required experience includes the following:

-Experience with common next-generation sequencing analysis tools.

-Knowledge and recent experience using at least 2 of the following programming languages for data cleansing and bioinformatics analysis: Python, R/Bioconductor, Perl, Java, or C++.

-Experience accessing, extracting, and preparing data for analysis.

-Recent experience working with publically available bioinformatics datasets, databases, and software tools -Experience analyzing data from human DNA sequencing projects, microbial analysis, or both.

-Experience using bioinformatics tools and performing complex bioinformatics analysis, particularly with regards to large data sets.

-Able to perform independent and semi-independent background research in areas such as biology, microbiology, molecular biology, population genetics, and bioinformatics algorithms.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience with publically available bioinformatics databases (e.g., NCBI, Ensembl).

-Ability to design and implement software-based approaches to solve complex bioinformatics problems.

-Experience applying bioinformatics in a cloud computing environment.

-Demonstrated ability to perform reference-based and de novo genome assembly metagenomics analysis using data from next-generation sequencing technologies.

-Strong knowledge of genome-wide association analysis, interpretation, and applied computational research on large multivariate data sets.

-Hands-on bioinformatics experience such as using BLAST suite programs for performing, visualizing, and manipulating multiple sequence alignments

-Demonstrated ability to analyze data obtained from multiple platforms as well as externally-generated data in support of meta-analysesAble to perform independent and semi-independent background research in such areas as microbiology, molecular biology, virology, etc.

-Experience with publicly-available Bioinformatics databases (NCBI, Entre2 or ENSEMBL).

-Ability to perform meta genomic analysis using sequence data from customer.

-Experience with common sequencing tools.

-Intelligence analyst experience.

-Strong oral and written communication skills

This position requires the candidate to already possess an active Secret clearance and to maintain the clearance. Top Secret with compartmented accesses and a Polygraph will be required.
