Job Description:
Robert and Kate Niehaus Center for Inherited Cancer Genomics is using the latest in gene sequencing technologies to discover the inherited causes of cancer. The ultimate goal is to develop new approaches for prevention as well as earlier detection and treatment of cancer.
As Bioinformatics Database/Application Engineer you will:
Develop, test, maintain and deploy database software for storing and managing large genomics and epidemiological datasets; Develop, test, maintain and deploy a user-friendly web application for data query, access and visualization; Assist in hardware upkeep with the help of institutional resources. Install, configure and support other existing bioinformatics software tools relevant to the project; Provide project's researchers with support on the bioinformatics tools developed and used in the project; Aggregate, organize and manage the project's genomics and epidemiological datasets; Proactively suggest practical solutions based on industry best practices to a wide range of complex problems. Deploy and maintain a laboratory Information management system
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Informatics, computer sciences or equivalent; Two years work experience in software development; Knowledge or working experience in NoSQL database; Proficiency in programming applications using Java technologies and open source Web frameworks; Knowledge of various other programming languages such as Perl, C, C++; Expert knowledge of (large-scale) relational database development using MySQL; Work experience in different system environments (e.g., UNIX, Linux, Windows); Ability to perform standard application unit testing and debugging. Familiarity with genomic data is a plus.
