Job Description:
This is an industry-level position in collaboration with MSK and AstraZeneca. We are looking for a senior Bioinformatics Engineer who will be involved in the analysis of large-scale immuno-genomic datasets collected by our own group as well as those shared by our collaborators. This position will involve close collaboration with a pharmaceutical partner of IPOP. The successful candidate should have advanced programming skills and a strong quantitative background with the ability to be able to perform and present results of complicated analysis. Strong communication skills and the ability to present results of analysis to a broad audience of physicians, scientists, and research staff is a must. In addition, the ability to design, development and maintenance of computational pipelines in the center is a plus.

Examples of responsibilities include:

  • Play an active role as an investigator in exciting immuno-oncology research projects
  • Present results of analysis to collaborating scientists, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Develops, maintains, and expands functionality of existing and to be developed bioinformatics software tools
  • Installs necessary and relevant bioinformatics software
  • Stays current with general bioinformatics tools and installs/runs tools as needed (genomics, proteomics, other bioinformatics tools)
He/She will work with computational and experimental biologists in a dynamic and exciting academic environment at the nexus of cancer biology, computer science, statistics and clinical research.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in a quantitative field of study.
  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or related quantitative discipline.
  • Parallel/High-performance computing experience
  • Advanced skills in Perl, Python, and/or R
  • Experience in software engineering tools and methods
  • Strong knowledge of bioinformatics algorithms, statistics, and software tools
  • Prior experience with analyzing “omics” data (especially proteomics, but also next gen sequencing, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, etc.)
Desirable experience:
  • Experience in Bioinformatics software development
  • Prior work with next-generation sequencing analysis toolkits (PICARD, GATK, samtools, etc.)
  • R/Bioconductor experience
  • C/C++, Java programming
  • Relational databases (e.g. Oracle, MySQL) and/or modern noSQL database systems.
  • Prior experience with statistical analysis
This position requires cross-disciplinary and strong analytical skills as well as broad experience using computational methods, databases, software and hardware.

The Immunogenomics and Precision Oncology Platform (IPOP) is a newly established program at MSK. IPOP is dedicated to developing precision immunotherapy at MSK.
