Breast Cancer Now’s Research Centre at the ICR is the first centre in the UK entirely devoted to breast cancer research and its goal is to advance research into the causes, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Currently known as The Breakthrough Toby Robins Breast Cancer Research Centre, at The Institute of Cancer Research, London, it is located in state-of-the-art laboratory space, with excellent core facilities and funding. We wish to appoint a Bioinformatics Officer to our core bioinformatics facility to work on a range of breast cancer related projects spanning molecular pathology, functional genomics and genetic epidemiology. The successful individual will be in a key interface position, supporting initiatives to apply next generation sequencing (NGS) such as exome and whole genome sequencing, RNA-seq; microarray, nanoString nCounter and in some circumstances proteomic platform data analysis for the understanding of breast cancer biology. The successful post holder will be responsible for the quality assurance, electronic storage and primary analysis of bioinformatics data generated by numerous projects in breast cancer. Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant subject or equivalent significant experience in a bioinformatics role/s and also have scripting experience in R and Perl. Experience in large-scale Next Generation Sequencing data analysis and in the use of transcriptomic and genomic data is required. The appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract and will be available for a period of 18 months. The full salary scale is in the range of £31,679 to £42,860 p.a. inclusive, starting salary will be based upon relevance of skills and experience.
