Job Description:

A full-time position is available in the Dept. of Plant Sciences, University of California, Davis, supported by a National Science Foundation-funded project to sequence the genome of the large and complex grass Aegilops tauschii, the donor of the wheat D genome (http://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1238231). The researcher will have the opportunity to analyze large volume and diverse datasets to address specific biological questions and will be responsible for processing, analyzing, and archiving large-scale genomic data sets, assessing data quality, conducting analyses, interpreting findings, and communicating findings.

Responsibilities:

Processing and analyzing large-scale genomic data sets; assessing data quality; conducting analyses; interpreting findings; and communicating findings with other scientists in meaningful formats;

Archiving data and findings in appropriate format(s), and recommending next steps;

Contributing to the experimental design of de novo research;

Maintaining excellent records for laboratory, programming, and analysis activities; and

Assess and integrate existing and new tools and data sources within the bioinformatics pipeline.

Requirements: PhD in bioinformatics, genetics, computational biology, computer science, mathematics, or biostatistics; familiarity with standard bioinformatics tools and scripting languages and emerging and evolving software platforms relevant to bioinformatics and computational biology; ability to create new analytical pipelines; experience with handling large data sets; and ability to program in at least two of the following: C++, PERL, Python, R, Java.
