Job Description:
The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Bioinformatics Programmer who will be responsible for the analyses and interpretation of large high-throughput biological datasets including (but not limited to) gene expression, SNP, and Next Gen sequencing technologies. The incumbent will collaborate with biomedical researchers in genomics, bioinformatics, related disciplines, and assume significant responsibility for developing software programs used in research and development. Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the development of algorithms, the development of software (including web applications), the analysis and interpretation of results, and providing assistance with preparing manuscripts and grant proposals. The incumbent will also be responsible for communicating his/her results to the principal investigator supervisor in a timely manner. The workload may span 2-3 related projects at a given time. The incumbent must be able to multitask, develop priorities, work in a fast-paced collaborative environment, and adapt to changing needs. Knowledge in machine learning is advantageous. Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position:
- Master’s Degree preferred but is not required. Strong background in computer science or bioinformatics. Experience working with microarrays or complex biological data sets is highly desirable, as is fluency with basic statistical methods.
- Strong programming experience is a must. Python programming on linux is preferable.
- Web application development skills are highly desirable.
- A successful candidate will have demonstrated success in scientific creativity, collaboration, and independent work.
