Job Description:
The Eukaryotic Pathogen Database resource (EuPathDB.org) seeks to fill six positions in support of an expansion project in the areas of clinical and epidemiological data integration and mining. The goal of this exciting initiative is to leverage existing strengths in the integration and analysis of pathogen genomics and functional data to incorporate large global projects (such as Mal-ED) that focus on the interplay between early childhood malnutrition and enteric infectious disease burden in developing countries. Anticipated hires include a senior project coordinator, web developer, ontologist, data loader, application developer, and community outreach specialist.

We seek a biologist or epidemiologist/statistician with experience in bioinformatics/computer programming, or a computer scientist with experience in bioinformatics/epidemiology, to join an established team of 30+ developers and biologists working on highly visible web sites integrating diverse large-scale datasets relevant to various aspects of global infectious disease biology (EuPathDB.org). A new component encompassing clinical and epidemiological data (particularly related to enteric pathogen disease) is expected to significantly extend existing genomics and bioinformatics resources, engaging a broad community of clinical and public health researchers. The successful candidate will interface with scientists working in clinical epidemiology research to acquire epidemiological datasets, building tools to load these data into a relational database (gusdb.org) and integrate with existing omics data. They will work collaboratively with biologists and software developers to translate requirements generated by the clinical and scientific user communities into effective data representations and WEB interfaces / applications using appropriate statistical and algorithmic approaches. Participation in the preparation of scientific papers and technical documentation and attendance at scientific meetings is encouraged.

Note that this position will join a long-standing program with multiple performance sites; the successful hire could be based at the University of Georgia, University of Pennsylvania, or University of Liverpool (UK).
