Job Description:
Position Summary

The Bioinformatics Programmer will write custom software to help perform data analysis on VDJ-Seq data. The programmer will develop new methods by training and evaluating deep neural networks. The candidate will work closely with the PI, a software engineer and another programmer and will write, test and document computer code under direction.

Position Activities

Assists with developing new software tools.

Writes software code for specific analyses.

Implements analytics pipeline using scripting and coding.

Writes tests for existing software in use in the laboratory.

Write and record documentation for software developed in the laboratory (including written manuals, how to tutorials and demonstration videos, documentation material on the lab web site).

Monitors user forums for software developed in the lab and answer software related questions.

Performs custom bioinformatics analyses using the developed computer code, as well as software developed by other laboratories.

Reports weekly on progress during lab meetings by presenting slides.

Updates roadmaps for individual projects to reflect progress.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

1. BS or BA in Computer Science or Bioinformatics

2. Ability to use the Linux command line to run analysis software on the command line, or develop workflows with command line steps

3. Strong programming skills in Java.

Source versioning system (i.e., git)

Highly Desired Requirements

Strong problem solving skills

Experience with deep learning in sequence data (e.g., RNN, LSTMs).

Experience designing algorithms and associated data structures.

Skill and Abilities

Ability to work productively with limited supervision.

Good communication skills.
