Bioinformatics Programmer/Analyst-Wilmington, DE
DuPont Central Research and Development (CR&D) is seeking a Bioinformatics Programmer/Analyst to join the bioinformatics, sequencing and automation group located at our research facility in Wilmington, Delaware.
The position is embedded in a strongly collaborative multi-disciplinary setting. The person hired is a highly enthusiastic, collaborative individual, with significant programming and algorithm development experience. He/she will work with computational biologists to develop, deploy and maintain tools that will be used by teams of biologists working on diverse projects. He/she may also train biologists to use packages and tools our group develops and/or deploys. The position will involve opportunities to directly support projects that will deliver real-world solutions affecting the bottom line of the company. A healthy team attitude is expected.
• Masters in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or related field with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience or Bachelor’s degree in the same disciplines with at least 6 years of relevant experience in a professional/industrial biotechnology setting. A degree in biology with strong demonstrated programming and data analysis skills will be considered.
• Demonstrated expertize in at least one of the following languages: Python, C/C++, Java or Perl is required; working knowledge of R and Matlab is desirable.
• Experience in relational database design and development is required. Experience building data warehouses for reporting is desired.
• Ability to work in a Unix/Linux environment is required.
• Experience in web application development and knowledge of MVC frameworks is desirable.
• Practitioner of software engineering best practices such as use of version control (e.g. Git/SVN) is desired.
• Experience with biological databases and bioinformatics applications and packages – commercial and/or open source is desired.
• Experience in collaborating with biologists and other bioinformatics scientists in cross-functional team settings is desired.
