Job Description:
Bioinformatics Research Analyst is required with focus on software application development, database design and administration. The successful applicant will collaborate with investigators to develop database applications for management of microbiology data and public health laboratory data. Activities will include Structured Query Language (SQL) database design and management, as well as, web-based application development in JavaScript and PHP domains.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Required Experience: 1 year

If any experience is required, please specify what kind of experience: Experience in bioinformatics and/or programming to include the development of databases and/or web applications, information modeling, and/or identification appropriate database resources for implementation.

Required Computer Applications: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook

Required Other Computer Applications: SQL databases (Oracle, postgres, MySQL)

Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable in the LAMP stack (Linus, Apache, MySQL and PHP); programming skills in Java, Python and/or Groovy
  • Knowledge and skilled with graph databases, specifically Neo4j, and SOL databases (Oracle, MySQL, Postgres).
  • Able to work in Unix-based systems and Windows-based systems.
  • Skilled in bioinformatics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player.
  • Willingness to learn and change throughout project(s).
Preferred Education: Master's degree

Preferred Experience:

2 years or more experience in bioinformatics and/or programming to include the development of databases and/or web applications, information modeling, and/or identification appropriate database resources for implementation.

Preferred Other Computer Applications: LAMP stack (Linus, Apache, and PHP); Neo4j; Linux; HL7; programs such as Java, Python and/or Groovy; REST services and other web services

Preferred Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with microbiology laboratory operations and/or US healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare related database architectures.
  • Familiarity with HL7 message syntax.
