Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (DLDCCC) is seeking a Bioinformatics Project Manager to utilize their domain, problem-solving, communication and leadership expertise to facilitate translational research as part of a multi-disciplinary team including bioinformatics, analysts and software engineers. The successful candidate will participate in a variety of translational research projects in the Division of Biomedical Informatics and the Biostatistics and Informatics Shared Resource (BISR) of the Dan L. Baylor College of Medicine, Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (DLDCCC) is seeking a Bioinformatics Project Manager to utilize their domain, problem-solving, communication and leadership expertise to facilitate translational research as part of a multi-disciplinary team including bioinformatics, analysts and software engineers. The successful candidate will participate in a variety of translational research projects in the Division of Biomedical Informatics and the Biostatistics and Informatics Shared Resource (BISR) of the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
- Manages the project to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives.
- Analyzes project goals, plans schedule of deadlines for project completion, and develops action plan and processes for project completion from inception to evaluation.
- Recommends software solutions for clinical and basic science Principal Investigators to carry out their research.
- Confers with Principle Investigators and staff to develop an understanding of their needs, scientific workflows and data (i.e., requirements elicitation).
- Analyzes project goals to determine how the desired software must function as a consequence of the PIs requirements.
- Prepares documentation of the PIs requirements in a clear, concise manner for BISR software engineers to use for programming.
- Trains co-workers and new employees on project billing/ invoicing via iLabs.
- May prepare or participate in the preparation of abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation as required.
- Reviews reports and records of activities to ensure progress is made toward specified program objectives.
- Develops implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures concerning project administration.
- May manage and administer grants for project, including the coordination of meetings, communications and other operations.
- Bachelor's degree in business/management, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a health related discipline or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Must have or develop within the first year of employment some formal training in project management methodologies (e.g. PMBOK, Six Sigma).
- Three years of experience in managing projects of variably complex technologies.
- Advanced degree in Biomedical Sciences or Life Sciences.
- Relevant experience working with research laboratories or understanding of the biomedical research field.
- Experience working within a software development life cycle (SDLC).
