Experienced Agile software development project manager for growing bioinformatics company in Cambridge Your new role: You will be joining an enthusiastic and talented team, leading a range of projects within bioinformatics and Agile software development, and leading a team of highly skilled developers, providing bespoke software solutions to clients. You will typically be working on 1-3 projects simultaneously, with timelines lasting from 1 month to 1 year. The Major Responsibilities Include :
- Managing Agile software development projects within bioinformatics for a range of clients;
- Leading a team of developers (both on-site and remote) developing functionality for the company’s main platform;
- Set, and manage, project timelines and milestones;
- Act as the main point of contact with clients, providing regular updates;
- Working with clients to define project scope, timelines, budget and delivery;
- Acting as a product owner;
- Coordinating software releases and updates to the company’s platform;
- Acting as a bridge between customers and the internal development team, ensuring good communication and smooth processes on project work; and
- Building relationships with clients for future business.
- As well as excellent analytical, organisational and team-working skills, you will need to have an innovative approach to problem solving and be able to work both independently and as part of a larger team.
- You should have a degree (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computer science or a related field, and ideally a post-graduate qualification.
- Experience with genomics would be an advantage, but is not necessary.
- A good understanding of modern programming languages, such as Python or Perl, with knowledge of others such as Java, C/C++ or Ruby an advantage;
- A track record of leading software development projects, ideally in an Agile environment;
- Experience leading a team of developers;
- Hands-on programming skills;
- Experience of working within a bioinformatics environment (or similar, eg cheminformatics, systems / structural biology); and
- An exposure to dealing with clients / customers.
- You must have very strong communication skills, with an excellent standard of spoken and written English, due to the interaction with clients.
