Job Description:
Our Client is a world leader in In Vitro diagnostics (IVD) and tissue-based cancer diagnostics and a front runner in diabetes management. We are seeking a talented and motivated scientist to lead the analysis strategies for a range of next-generation sequencing (NGS) applications of future IVD products.
Responsibilities:
· Lead the design and implementation of (prototype) workflows for the analysis of NGS data from a multitude of study designs, diseases areas and analyzes in a platform independent manner.
· Serve as the subject matter expert for statistical, algorithmic and computational issues relevant to the analytical and clinical validation of NGS tests.
· Provide bioinformatics leadership for internal R&D by engaging scientists, scoping problems, designing and implementing analysis solutions for the purpose of diagnostic product development in oncology and genetics.
· Effectively weigh the costs and benefits of de novo implementations versus adapting publicly available software.
· Work iteratively with stakeholders to address problems relevant to hypothesis testing and biomarker validation in a range of biological contexts.
Qualifications:
· Comprehensive working knowledge of algorithms underlying common NGS analysis tools. This includes in-depth knowledge of probability and statistics (especially dynamic programming and graphical models) as demonstrated by course work.
· A track record of solving complex biological problems as demonstrated by senior authorship in peer review publications.
· A track record for effectively communicating and visualizing information.
· Expert knowledge of R (Bioconductor) and a scripting language such as Python.
· PhD in computer science, statistics or a related discipline.
· Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience in academia or industry.
· Experience building and / or managing a team.
· Must be comfortable providing leadership in a competitive landscape and operating independently with incomplete information.
Knowledge of domain specific biological concepts and implementing potentially complex algorithmic and statistical designs.
Comfortable managing and / or engaging biologists, technologists, statisticians and bioinformaticians to produce a portfolio of platform independent solutions for the next generation of IVD products.
