Job Description:
A Bioinformatics Research Scientist position is available in the laboratories of Drs. Charles Mullighan, MBBS, MD (Pathology) and Paul Northcott, PhD (Developmental Neurobiology). This joint position offers an unrivaled opportunity to be embedded in an environment leading integrated genomic and experimental studies in childhood brain tumors and leukemia. The successful applicant will be embedded in a recently established St Jude Epigenetic Collaborative project examining the role of epigenomic and transcriptional alteration in pediatric cancer. This will involve interaction with world leaders in the field including Scott Armstrong (Dana Farber) David Allis (Rockefeller), Tom Muir (Princeton) and Charles Roberts (St. Jude). You will be involved in the integrative epigenomic and transcriptomic analysis of large cancer genomic datasets from patients with childhood brain cancers and leukemia and engineered models of pediatric cancer. As a member of this research team, you will have the unparalleled opportunity to collaborate with a consortium of investigators within and outside of St. Jude examining chromatin biology and cancer.

Responsibilities:

This role involves detailed epigenomic sequencing analyses including ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq as well as single cell sequencing approaches of primary cancer samples, xenografts and experimental models. Proficiency in analysis of next- generation sequencing data is required, and experience with analysis of cancer genomic data sets, including integrative analysis of multimodality data and expertise in analysis of ChIP-sequencing is desirable. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with computational and experimental biologists are essential.

Compensation is very competitive and commensurate with experience.

Minimum Experience:

  • Ph.D which must include research related to bioinformatics (such as analysis of sequence data, microarrays, SNPs, image data, proteomics data, or biological pathways; development of algorithms, statistical methods, or scientific software); OR If Ph.D with no bioinformatics research, then two years of pre-or postdoctoral experience in computational biology or bioinformatics research is required
  • Experience with programming languages such as Perl, C, or Java required
  • Experience and knowledge on statistical analysis package such as R, SAS and Matlab is highly desired.
Minimum Education
  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, computer science, statistics, mathematics, bioinformatics or related field required.
