Job Description:
Duties: In a computational biology laboratory manage a large biologically based dataset, which will include processing the data using various existing software packages in a Linux environment and working with an established MySQL database. Additionally, the application will be expected to provide general support of the laboratory’s computing infrastructure including Mac OS systems, Windows systems, and printers. Data management including retrieval, storage, backup and processing with predefined scripts. Manage the sequencing analysis pipeline source code, process incoming sequencing data including quality checks and regularly back up sequencing data. Support user access and interfacing with sequencing portal, database and data repository. Qualifications: B.S. or higher degree in bioinformatics, computer science, or other related fields, and 0-1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 1-2 years of experience are strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate with a bioinformatics background with an interest in developing additional bioinformatics skills. Working knowledge of Linux systems is required. Experience with Python, Perl, Bash, R, MySQL, and PHP is preferred. Candidate expected to have experience in or demonstrate a strong desire to learn about genomics and handling of next-generation RNA sequencing and/or SNP genotyping data.
