The Neurogenetics Program at the Center for Genomic Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate to work independently as a Bioinformatics/Research Tech II position. The successful candidate will provide support for the Swoboda Lab. The work involves the knowledge of data analysis and data preparation using various software’s (MEGA, STATA, R statistical computing, Redcap) and computational data management in addition to perform classic laboratory techniques for biological sample processing and sequencing. The successful candidate will provide support for the Swoboda Lab. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (50%) Data analysis and management:
- Maintain data storage, processing, and interpretation for analysis.
- Provide support to co-workers on management, queering, data transfer, and retrieval of existing and new data using existing computational methods.
- Actively collaborate and serve as resource to lab members seeking support with biostatistician analysis and data queries.
- Evaluate existing computational methods and serve as a knowledge resource to members of the team seeking advice about the best tool for a particular problem.
- Perform data entry and organizes and summarizes acquired data, using scientific and statistical techniques.
- Write programs in Python to statistically analyze biomarkers data on existing protocols.
- Utilize software for genetic sequencing.
- In an independent and timely fashion, maintain quality control and processing of next-generation sequencing data, from the initial output of the sequencing instrument to the customer-ready datasets.
- Perform troubleshooting and testing of computational tools and pipelines
- Independently perform and optimize sample processing for DNA and RNA extraction from whole blood, cells and other bodily tissues, process and store plasma, serum, cells, CSF and urine samples for further research studies
- Conduct DNA/RNA sample preparation for sequencing and genotyping following existing laboratory protocols. Organize and keep sample inventory
- Execute protocols of non-routine experiments
- Assist the PI with Determining the most suitable methodology
- Organize and accurately maintain written records of experimental procedures and data collection
- Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data
- Prepare laboratory reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment.
- Organize materials for publication or presentation.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems
- Good communication skills
- High degree of computer literacy
- Demonstrated competence in research techniques and methodologies
- Working knowledge of clinical research protocols.
- Must be able to perform multiple tasks independently.
- Familiarity with database and bioinformatics and statistical analysis is a plus.
- Familiarity with R, SAS programming and modern database structure is preferred.
