Job Summary
We are seeking a bioinformatics researcher to be a key team member in a multidisciplinary research group focused in Biodefense and Bioenergy, using molecular biology, analytical chemistry, and ultrahigh-throughput sequencing technologies to enable pathogen discovery, detection, characterization, and diagnosis, as well as to develop new generations of biofuels. The individual will provide technical support for bioinformatics efforts in these research areas. Responsibilities will include the use and development of software systems to manage and analyze DNA sequence data. The candidate will be expected to work with a diverse multidisciplinary team of scientific colleagues and collaborators.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Advanced technical degree or significant equivalent experience. Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position. Thorough knowledge of and applied experience with scientific and engineering methods and with the discipline's standards for the ethical conduct of research. Thorough knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with implementing Sandia policies affecting research, design, and development activities, projects, or initiatives. Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines.Required
This position requires a B.S. or M.S. in bioinformatics, computer science, or a related scientific discipline. Other required qualifications include (1) experience in the bioinformatics algorithms and software tools that are commonly used in the curation, assembly, and annotation of sequencing data sets; (2) familiarity with current- generation and emerging ultrahigh-throughput sequencing technology and software tools; (3) experience in software development and programming (e.g., C/C++, Perl, Python); (4) a demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member; and (5) a strong motivation to tackle science and technology challenges of national importance.This position requires a B.S. or M.S. in bioinformatics, computer science, or a related scientific discipline.
