Job Description:
The Application Informatics group is involved in a diverse range of bioinformatics activities within Illumina, including forensics sequencing, RNA sequencing, and genotyping bead arrays. Members of the team work in close collaboration with wet lab scientists to support assay development through primer design and assay optimization. In addition, the team is responsible for defining and creating workflows that enable simplified analysis of customer data, integrating best-in-class community tools as well as developing new methods and algorithms. Members of the team are also involved in translating these analysis workflows into Illumina’s cloud computing environment. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a cross functional team, translating the challenges faced by the group into bioinformatics solutions. The position requires a strong background in both statistics and algorithms development, in order to be able to define the appropriate statistical model or algorithmic approach for any one of a variety of challenging problems. Illumina develops tools for the discovery of genetic variation and the analysis of its biological significance. We have developed assays for applications including sequencing, whole genome genotyping, gene expression, methylation, and copy number variation. We are seeking an exceptional individual to contribute to innovative methods which transform sequencing results into discoveries and clinical insight to improve patient care. Why is one person more likely to develop a disease—like cancer, diabetes or Parkinson’s—than someone else? Why would one person respond differently to treatment than another? What is the most effective treatment for each patient? Illumina’s technologies are helping researchers and clinicians around the world to answer these questions and others, on a scale not even possible a few years ago.
