Job Description:
• The Bioinformatics Scientist will contribute to fundamental science research programs studying microbial communities and environmental microbiology. • The candidate will be responsible for data analysis from various high-throughput ‘omics platforms, including DNA/RNA sequence data, proteomics and metabolomics. • Experience with high performance computing platforms, statistical computing and data integration methods is highly desirable. • The successful candidate will be expected to assist computational biology methods development and validation, to work directly with experimental biologists in interdisciplinary teams, and to contribute to presentations and journal articles. • Successful candidates will have experience working as part of a team, strong verbal and written communication skills, and effective time-management skills. Minimum Qualifications: BS/BA with 2 years experience; MS/MA with 0 years of experience; PhD with 0 years experience Preferred Qualifications: • Masters in Bioinformatics or related field with at least 2 years relevant work experience • Must be a skilled professional who applies a broad basis of existing theories, principles, and concepts to a specialty field The ideal candidate will have a track record for interdisciplinary research, particularly in the analysis of ‘omics data, including genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data, and be proficient in one or more scripting languages (Perl, Python), as well as one or more statistical computing languages (R or MatLab). He/she should have a strong fundamental biology background with significant statistical computing experience. The candidate should have excellent communication skills with a demonstrated interest in multi-disciplinary, collaborative research. The candidate should also have an interest in applying new approaches and knowledge to science problems associated with the underlying physiological and biological mechanisms of import to carbon cycling or bioenergy.
