Job Description:
The Sema4 laboratory in Branford, CT is looking for a motivated, professional Bioinformatics Scientist to join our growing Production Bioinformatics team. The Sema4 - Branford laboratory is a CLIA, CAP, and NYSDOH accredited clinical genomics facility.

Key Responsibilites:

The Bioinformatic Scientist will have the primary responsibility of providing sequencing and analytical support and interpretation for the clinical laboratory as well as conducting ongoing QC and performance testing in support of the sequencing lab. Additional responsibilities would include:

  • DNA/RNA sequence and statistical analysis
  • Help to design and document analysis pipelines and their SOPs
  • Biologically-oriented troubleshooting of laboratory/assay procedures
  • Liaison between bioinformatics, laboratory personnel, and clinical directors
  • Integration of NGS related databases, datasets, and software packages
Preferred Experience/Background:
  • PhD in a field related to molecular biology or bioinformatics OR a Masters in a field related to molecular biology or bioinformatics with significant experience
  • 2-4 years relevant experience in post-doc/lab/industry (at least 4 years if Masters degree)
  • First hand knowledge of Illumina, IonTorrent, and other NGS technologies
  • Expert knowledge on current bioinformatics/genomics/proteomics resources available at NCBI, Ensembl, UCSC, COSMIC, Broad Institute, etc.
  • Strong experience in data analysis
  • General coding and/or database management experience
  • Advanced coding in Python, Java, and SQL a plus
  • Experience working with Docker and cloud-computing a plus
