Job Description:
Are you interested in helping push cancer research forward? Would you like to tackle big data problems? Do you want to be a part of a team that assists in providing personalized data driven treatments to cancer patients? If so, the Lineberger Bioinformatics Core is looking for you! The Bioinformatics Core Facility at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) provides bioinformatics and computational biology research services for the cancer center. As a member of the Bioinformatics Core Facility, The Bioinformatics Scientist will be responsible for development and execution of software for advanced data analysis tasks in support of LCCC sponsored research. the primary research focus of this position will be bioinformatics support of the LCCC Immunotherapy Group. Specific research goals will be identified through collaboration with geneticists, oncologists, biostatisticians, statisticians, and informaticians. Fulfillment of this responsibility requires experience in a linux compute cluster environment, programmatic database queries, management of large data sets, data mining, statistical analysis, and strong scientific communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must have knowledge and experience in DNA or RNA sequence analysis, linux shell scripting, working in a cluster computing environment, R, and at least one of Python, Java, C/C++, or Perl. Experience working in a research support environment, with cloud technologies (Docker, OpenStack), Javascript, and SQL is preferred.A MS or BS and 3 years of experience in computer science, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics, genetics, statistics or computational biology is required.
