Gusto Global LLC, a drug discovery and development company with a focus on next generation microbiome-inspired immune-modulation therapies, seeks to hire a highly-motivated bioinformatics programmer to aid in the development of a software platform for the annotation, analysis, and modeling of human gut microbiomes and custom microbiome formulations. The successful candidate will be a skilled programmer, capable of developing backend pipelines, building data indexing systems, and developing simple front-end viewers for a rich array of biological datatypes. The candidate will be operating within a small, versatile, innovative, and rapidly-growing start-up environment, interacting closely with a small team of talented and world-leading scientists (Jack Gilbert, Christopher Henry, Daniel van der Lelie and Safiyh Taghavi) who co-founded the company. Gusto Global LLC, a drug discovery and development company with a focus on next generation microbiome-inspired immune-modulation therapies, seeks to hire a highly-motivated bioinformatics programmer to aid in the development of a software platform for the annotation, analysis, and modeling of human gut microbiomes and custom microbiome formulations. The successful candidate will be a skilled programmer, capable of developing backend pipelines, building data indexing systems, and developing simple front-end viewers for a rich array of biological datatypes. The candidate will be operating within a small, versatile, innovative, and rapidly-growing start-up environment, interacting closely with a small team of talented and world-leading scientists (Jack Gilbert, Christopher Henry, Daniel van der Lelie and Safiyh Taghavi) who co-founded the company. The position is located in the Charlotte region, North Carolina, USA. Required Skills:
- BS (MS a plus) in bioinformatics, computer science or related field
- Highly proficient in perl, bash, javascript, and web application development
- Capable of developing micro-services to wrap an API around existing sequence analysis tools (e.g. genome/metagenome assemblers, genome annotators, BLAST)
- Capable of designing data indexes using modern frameworks (e.g. SOLR, Elasticsearch) to support rapid data queries
- Capable of building simple web interfaces for browsing and visualizing data
- Capable of conceiving and implementing new data analysis and data mining algorithms
- Strong communications skills and a desire to work in a small team environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excited to operate within a team environment
- Experience with biological datatypes and repositories, including: genomes, metagenomes, transcriptomes, NCBI, SRA, IMG, PATRIC, and KEGG
- Experience with common tools and pipelines in bioinformatics, including: BLAST, genome assemblers, RAST, MGRAST, QIIME, anti-smash, ModelSEED, COBRA-Py, COBRA Toolbox
- Experience with reconstruction and analysis of metabolic models
- Experience with machine learning algorithms
- Knowledgeable of computer hard-ware and basic system administration
- The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States
- The successful candidate should be willing to locate to the Charlotte, NC area
