Job Description:
Illumina’s genome sequencing technology is helping make precision medicine a reality, particularly for patients affected by rare and undiagnosed genetic disorders and cancer. As part of the Center for Population and Medical Genomics (CPMG), within the Chief Medical Officer Organization, we are seeking an exceptional senior bioinformatics scientist to help us further drive whole genome sequencing to the clinic for these patients. This individual will work closely with the Illumina Clinical Services Laboratory, CPMG scientists in the US and the UK, engage deeply with our bioinformatics team and support clinical partnerships. Responsibilities

  • WGS analyses across large numbers of patients with rare and undiagnosed genetic disease and/or cancer
  • Liaising with scientists in health systems across the globe to develop clinical grade solutions and processes
  • Establishing and managing research collaborations with scientists and clinicians
  • Supporting the activities of Illumina Clinical Service Laboratory
  • Developing bioinformatics tools to extract maximum information from the genome, and testing these tools in both local and external clinical environments
  • Critically evaluating the current state-of-the-art WGS analyses, and developing strategies for improvement
  • Software/algorithm design and prototyping
  • The management of other scientists and bioinformaticians
Requirements
  • PhD in bioinformatics, human genetics, computational biology, or related field of study
  • 5-7 years’ experience working with human whole genome and/or exome sequencing data
  • Experience managing others and sustaining large collaborative efforts
  • Expertise in software development using Python, Java, C#, C++ or C
  • Exceptional ability to condense complex methods to driving results
  • Experience working with clinical deployment of NGS technologies a plus
